April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

A while back Rick H had mentioned he knew of a site or place that sold blemished or refirb'd seaswirls.  Anyone know anything about it??

I heard of a guy that sells refurbished Euro Reef skimmers, but not sea swirls yet.   I would recommend watching Reef Central again.  Reef Frontiers is pretty cool also...I will keep a eye out for ya.  What size are you looking for, still 3/4 inch?

Mike,
This weekend we went and visited Kevin at Aquatic Dreams.   Kevin showed us how a Sea Swirl operates.   He showed us the motor and explained how they work.   He rebuilds them.   He is a authorized Sea Swirl dealer.   If you find one that needs repair.  You might consider this.
I will keep looking on Reef Central.    You can also try Sea Swirl.com .
Remember the space inbetween Sea and Swirl.   Ask them for rebuilt units.    I heard they run $120 for 3/4 inchers.

I picked up 2 refurbished Sea Swirls 3/4 for $120 each.  Picked them up from the mfg.  They support several fish maintenance companies and when one fails they just exchange the unit and then rebuild the broken one.  They are not always available.

Mike,
I was warned about 1 inch Sea Swirls this week.   I was told they do make noise.   I am considering going with 3/4 inch because of that.

They work great.  I purchased 1 3/4" seaswirl, and hooked it up.  Seemed to do very well.  Then Ed let me borrow another one and I hooked that one up also..  I have been very very pleased with 2 3/4".  I don't think 1 was enough..  They seem to have perfect flow rate for my 125..  I was worried about kicking up sand also, but they have adjustable heads on them..  They are expensive but I think they are worth it..

Thanks
Mike

Ditto on what Mike said.  I ran 2 3/4 sea swirls on the 155 with a 1/2" in the middle.  They do not kick up the sand.  I modified mine to add a 3/8 hard plastic tube inserted at a 45 degree angle from the 90 that come with the unit.  This allowed better current flow at the bottom of the tank near the corners under the sea swirl units.  With just the 90 ell, the current flowed very well, but it was several feet away from the unit before it would reach the bottom of the tank and would leave a dead spot directly under the sea swirl.

If you personally call the mfg, you can sometimes get refurm units for a small discount.

I am installing 2 1" units on the 240.

I saw one on ebay for 89 bucks buy it now but I don't remember the size.  I saw it today witha couple of days to go.  I am thinking of two 3/4" for my 150g too.  In the middle pointing towards the corners and back to the middle.

The best Deal I heard of was at Saltwater City in Seattle Area.   I think he wanted $149 for 3/4 inch Sea Swirl.    Shipping would be extra.
