reeftopia order?

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.
 
Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

They seem to hang out during the day in areas that you cannot see, and they venture out at night.  Have you looked for them after your tank has been dark for a while?  You might try that and I bet you find them.

Just curious...of those of you who got peppermint shrimp, how did that go?  We got 3 "large" from Reeftopia last club order and we saw them for about for 5 seconds as they went into the rock, never to be seen again (Darrel thinks the emerald crabs got 'em).  We are having some fairly minor aiptasia problems.  I've tried a couple chemical means, with moderate success, but we have some small ones coming back.  Am thinking of getting peppermint shrimp, again, but not if they disappear as soon as they go in the tank (and, no, they are not in there just hiding, we've looked and looked even at night and this was several months ago we got them).  I have also looked at the idea of getting some Berghia nudibranchs - their only food is aiptasia.  Expensive little bugger, but a natural way to rid your tank of aiptasia.  Here is info if you have never heard of them:  http://www.berghia.net/  Has anyone had an experience with these?

Purchased 4.  One went into the 12 gallon nano and the other three went into the 20 gallon nano.  All of them seem well.  They have cleaned out all of the remaining aiptasia in the 20 gallon already, which is very nice.  On the other hand, the one in the 12 gallon has started picking on the torch that I got in the raffle at the last meeting, so his days in that tank are probably numbered.  All of the shrimp have been large and active, which is good to see after the ones that I ordered and lost previously.  I have no idea how they'd play in a larger, better fed tank, but two or three of these will be extra soon.

A few snails didn't make it, which is probably expected, but otherwise everything looks well from the last order.  Except the beautiful red ball sponge, which has no polyps at all in it.  We did order (and pay for) the one with the polyps in it, didn't we?

Hey Nate.
One of my nudis were DOA     But, the other one looked ok on Sat morning. We went to Spokane this weekend and I looked for it last night when we got home and didn't see it- but it could be hiding. Just wanted to give you the heads up that one of them is a gonner so far. (And trust me, they have plenty to eat!!! )

So far as I know, there was only one red ball sponge on their site.  You may want to check and let me know ASAP if we need to contact them about it.

Ah, I somehow had thought they used to list a red ball sponge without the polyps.

In any case, I've looked the sponge over well and watched it for a few days, and there's nothing at all on it that could be called yellow or a polyp, let alone like the picture.  I'm a bit disappointed since it was a bit pricey for a sponge, and I probably would have gotten the branching one otherwise.

On the subject of peppermints, this guy has been in the front of the tank for the past three days.  Since he hasn't touched the lps today, he's on probation rather than being moved out of the tank.  He's been on that rock for most of the day, but he doesn't seem to have hurt any of the polyps.  I've kept careful track of them, and they all open  up completely whenever he moves away for a moment.  As with everything in these tanks, I watch and wait.

Well, I see I joined just a little too late to get in on the group order  .  I'd be interested in part of a "cleanup crew"-type order, as well as a pair of cleaner shrimp.  Maybe there are a few more people who will be interested in an order.  Does anyone else live around the Yakima area who is planning an order...maybe after the March meeting?   Also, I'm looking for a good macroalgae for my sump that doesn't require a lot of light.  I have a small "Under-the-Counter" type fluorescent fixture over the DSB area of my sump.  Is there a macroalgae that would work for this?  Does someone have some extra they want to sell?  I'm kind of leery about Caleurpa(sp?).  Any suggestions?

We don't sell anything here, we trade.  Just about all of us have calurpa,  I'd help you out but I just gave two big clumps to Vicki and to Nate,  Give me a couple of weeks to grow some morew and we will see what we can do.  As far as cleanup, I know that we will be raffling off 100 turbo snails at the next meeting, along with other stuff.

Caulerpa is about the lowest light macro algae that I know of.  Seems like several people here have brillo pad (chaetomorpha) as well, but I don't anymore.

We are too cost prohibited to reship those items. We will credit your card for them. Does the gentleman know the polyps on the sponge are nocturnal?

psa, I'm sure you were aware the polyps ar enocturnal right?  If not, check to see if they are out or not so I can let them know for sure.  They'll credit us for that and luvnsalt's nudi.  Plan to get money back from us at the next meeting if you can make it.  If not, we will try to make other arrangements.

About the peppermint shrimp - I saw mine today finally.  He is doing just fine.  I have another one so I wasn't sure if I was seeing the new one or old one, but I saw both at the same time today.  My nudi is still alive too, although my algae doesn't seem to be disappearing at all.
