January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

Oops! Sorry Jewels, I didn't mean to step on your toes and cut in on the shrimp deal but I noticed after I posted my message that you wanted two of Jeffs order so we will take the additional 1 to complete the order and 4 additional.  I should be o.k. with this many shrimp of the same kind, right?

Thanks!

There's discounts for larger lots of shrimp as well in the lot prices.  I'll be looking for 4 or so peppermints, some nassarius, cerinths, emerald crabs, and scarlet hermits.  I haven't figured out how many I need yet, but I may be able to help fill up a lot here or there.

Also thinking about the treesponge and low-light gorgonian (still wanting a seahorse tank) and maybe a Royal Gramma (which my daughter fell in love with at John's last week).

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

Carmen,

Typically the turbos with some cerith and maybe nerite in smaller quantities works well.  I'm sure Colleen and I will be able to fill in orders on groups of stuff too.  We'll be getting some of each of the above, scarlet hermits, emeralds, and maybe some peppermint (also referred to as "cleaner" right?) shrimp.

We hope to be starting the pump tonight!   Wink

Psa,
I think John has a Bicolor Pseudo Chromis, they look a lot like the Royal Gramma. Reeftopia has a great price on the Royal Gramma, but my experience with a royal gramma is it hid all the time. Has anyone else had that problem? If your daughter wants to see it you might want the pseudo chromis instead.  (just food for thought)

Carmen,
Are you actually wanting the small astreas or the larger turbos? If you are after the astreas, then I will take 20 of the larger turbos. I will figure out what I want for sure and let you know. Thank you Nate.

Cleaner shrimp and Peppermint shrimp are two different kinds of shrimp.  Peppermints are good for ditritous and for aptasia control, while cleeners are good for cleaning parisites off of the other fish.  Peppermints generally run $4-5 each, are red with some fine white stipes and usually hide during daylight.  Cleaner shrimp run $15-18, are white with a red and white tail, are about twice as big as a peppermint shrimp, and will be out and viewable during the day.  If you want to see your shrimp on a regular basis, I would go with the cleaner shrimp. Royal grammas do usually hide until they feel comfortable in the tank.  They have a darker purple front half, and more flowing fins.  Bicolor psudos are more steamlined, The front color is more fushia(is that how you spell that), and will be out in the tank more.  I have both with the Royal gramma in the big tank and the bicolor in the small tank, if you can remember which each one looks like.  Hope this helps.

O.K. last time I try to order on my own because maybe I really didn't know what I wanted.  Nacho and I sat down and went through this together and we decided to get this:

Total reef care special #3 which consist of: 60 Turbo(Astrea) snails, 15 scarlet reef Hermit crabs, 48 Nassarius snails, 30 lg Cerith snails, 4 emerald crabs and 12 nerite.

plus 100 Turbo (Astrea) snails and 2 peppermint shrimp.

This is my final order, I promise. Wink

I'll try to post what we are planning to order this weekend sometime.  Then, sometime next Tuesday (mid-day I hope), I'll try to combine what everyone is wanting into a single post, and have you guys tell me before 7 PM if I've got it right.  If so, I'll order in lots of 100/300/12 or whatever as best we can to get the best prices.

Carmen, is there any problem with doing the critters you suggested by combining them into the larger lot orders instead of doing the kit if it works out to be cheaper?  I'll make sure you get what you listed there, but if it will fill orders in to larger lots, we may be better doing it that way.  Let me know so I can do what you'd like.

Here is my order: 30 Turbo Snails, 3 Scarlet Hermit Crabs, and 2 peppermint Shrimp. That doesn't sound like much, but for our little tank that is BIG  Tongue
