April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

One of my tanks had a bit of aiptasia.  I was aware of the stuff and had tried a few things to remove individuals, but it popped up here and there.

A month ago I put a new softy in the tank and pinned it between a couple rocks since it was unattached.  Unfortunately it got loose, found its way to a pump intake, and sliced itself up trying to fit through the grate.  This led to total meltdown and I had to toss the rotting mess.

I only mention this sad incident because I think the nutrient spike led to the massive outbreak of aiptasia in the tank.  There are literally hundreds of small individuals all over the place, on powerheads, the heater, glass, rock, sand, snail backs, you name it.  I've only read about such things.

I really don't want to sterilize the tank and everything in it, but I'm not even sure of the best way to scrub it off of the equipment, let alone the rocks.  I have nothing that will eat the stuff at the moment, either.

What would you recommend?

I got a hold of a peppermint shrimp to solve my aiptasia problems.  I have been told I was one of the lucky ones though.  I had probably 10 little aiptasias in there and he got rid of them all in about 2 days.  It might take a little longer in yours, but that may be worth a try.  There is a fish that eats them too, but I can't remember which one.

Well, since our dear LFS wanted >$15 per peppermint shrimp, I guess I'll be looking to add it onto our next group order then... :?

Or maybe it's time for a roadtrip for this and to stock my new nano

I think the club members have had the best success with shrimp and other animals from Dr. Fosters & Smith aka Live Aquaria.  If we put together a club order, the shipping is only $35.

I won't be calling you a liar - I put 3 peppermints in my tank from Reeftopia and saw them for about 5 seconds when they scurried into the rock, never to be seen again.  Since nobody in the tank is telling us what happened to those buggers, Emerald crab feed is what we called 'em

For one or two little aiptasia, I use Marine Depot's Chem-Marin Aiptasia Stop - cheap, easy to use and works so far for us.  Now, for getting rid of a whole bunch of 'em, I don't know and I hope to never have to find out!

I got a peppermint shrimp from reeftopia and it kicked the bucket very quickly.  I got one from liveaquaria.com and it is doing very well.  It even comes out and socializes occasionally.  It even molted successfully.  I definitely recommend them from liveaquaria.

Well Dasihia I wont say Liar But I have had pretty good luck with them and they surviving, As for getting pepermints to eat Aiptasia I have had a 20% suscess factor  :?
I agree with Rick The one that were the aiptasia eaters came from Dr Foster & Smith Via Live aquaira. For me ...Just my 2 cents

Well, at least Live Aquaria has that 14 day guarantee and from what I've heard they honor it very well.   Much better than the one-day guarantee we got from the LFS - only one out of the 3 clowns we've gotten had the good manners to die the first day - the others made it a couple days so no refund there.  My next fish order is going to be with Live Aquaria I think!

Dashia, I don't want to be the one who does it, but like you, I was convinced that the shrimp from Reeftopia were never to be seen again, but lo and behold, 3 of the 4 have shown back up.

I used to think the same thing about pepermint shrimp. I added them and added them to my old 175 and when I took it down I found about 12 of the little buggers that had made it. I guess that the ones I got were just shy.
