April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

I vaguely remember somewhere along the line that someone said that those little cream colored starfish that come in on rock are bad.  Anybody remember that conversation?

Yes they are coral munchers.  I had them in my tank and they multiplied like crazy.  I thought they were cool until Rick schooled me on them.  now I pick them out everytime I find one.

Rick,

I have a question about amphipods. Will amphipods kill SPS? What find of fish nip at amphipods. My tank has too many amphipods at night. Zul

Zul,

Amphipods are usually a good thing.  They will eat the detritus and algae that is growing in your tank.  I have not heard of pods eating corals.  Other parasites will.

Many fish will eat them, however the Mandarins and sixline wrasse are known to feed on them heavily.  So much, that you would not want both of these fish in the same tank as you would soon run out of pods and one of the fish would end up starving.

Hope this helps.

Brittle Stars are great for your tank.  They are scavengers and help keep the tank clean.
