April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

Ok guys here is the deal I am putting a sump under my 55.  Its going to be a 20L (I think).  I want to know what size pump I should put in it.  I might get a scwd also.  Tell me what you guys think on pumps.  I was thinking a mag-drive 9.5 or the 12 at the most.  I really don't have a lot of money with X-mas coming and my wifes birthday.  Thanks for the info!!

Hey Mike Mc,
I need to let you know that the squid reduces outlet pressure.    You may want to come look at mine.   I am running a Mag 18.   I looked at Matts eductors and I may do that to increase my circulation.   The SCWD is quiet and cheap( around $40.).   So far besides the reduction of flow I like it.  Hope this helps...Ed

20 liter or 20 gallons???  Just make sure you have enough room so that if the pump stops and the tank backflows into the sump, you have the room to accomidate that water.  On your return pump just keep in mind what your overflow rate is, just make sure you purchase a pump that operatres under pressure, that way if you cut down the flow with ball valves or a scwd it doesn't damage it.  I like the dolphin I got, it was cheap $130, and it will easily overflow my tank at full power at 6ft head.  You can tee off your return line and send some back to the sump or a refuge if you want to use the scwd to reduce back pressure.

I think I got mine at marinedepot.  Seems like a good pump.  It is very quiet if you can get all the bubbles out of it. hehe..  I basically right now have my return line T'd.  One line goes upto the tank, one line goes to a uv sterilizer and then back into the sump and then I have that 1/4 line going to the Calcium reactor.  I have more then enough pressure everywhere and I supposidely have a 1600gph overflow..  I couldn't juststify the price of an iwaki..

I have two eductors for sale $1 ea.

I would go with mag 12.
If you want I can also drill the sump 1/4 hole for an auto top off float valve.

Hate to say it, but the best pump for your money as well as for its sheer durability and replcementability (is that a word?) is an Iwaki WMD40RXLT.

But from what I understand, that has an american motor in it, so it is louder, less reliable, and doesn't perform as well under Pressure as the Japanese motors do.  Plus It's HUGE..
