Nano Seahorse tank

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.  
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.

Last week I picked up a pair of Kellogi Seahorses from Mike at Amazon Bay.  At first they were a dark brown with spots but in the week they have been in the Nano tank, they have changed to a nice yellow with red highlights.  Here are a few pictures.

In the nano I have a maxijet 1200 doing all the work.  It is almost to much as I have the lockline pointing right at the tank wall to keep the current down.  I mostly keep it down so the food stays in the clam shell when I feed.  They are like dogs and come running to the feed bowl when I put the myisis in.

Thanks Rick for the quick reply, The Reason I asked is I have a 29 gallon tank hooked to a common sump on my 150 reef It currently has 2 shrimp gobies and 2 pistol shrimps and 2 skunk cleaner shrimps. I was kicking the idea of getting a pair ?? But was worried about the flow the tank is feed with a rio 2100 and I have about 4'6" of head so?? from reading the Marine depot web site I am hitting this tank with about 300 GPH thru a 3/4" line..Mike has told me he is bringing in more breeding Pairs so??? Still learning about them Thanks for the info Rick take care...Jeff

Your little tank is really neat, we have been admiring it over at amazonbay, my son Vernie who is 17 was really inspired by it, he used his knowlage of wood working and built his own stand and hood and has started his own nano system, he built his sump with a 2 gallon, it's still a work in progress but he is so very proud of it and wanted to share it with you. The only mistake he made was using white silicone insead of a clear. He also wants to put a couple of Seahorse's in it, all he has in it so far is some live rock. He has a 125 gallon tank with Frontosa'a and a few other cichlids, so going salt is been a real fun and new thing for him, he is leaving in the fall to the Navy so I'll be taking care of it for him, so i'm glad I found this great forum to learn all i need about salt water, my husband and i have just bought a 30 gallon and are seting it up for a salt water reef as well, I even inrolled in a 7 day class online at about.com to learn all i can about maintaning it. Thanks for sharing.  A lot of us in the club really enjoy making our own systems and it looks like you son has done a great job of it.  I am glad my tank was an inspiration for him.  It was nice of the people at Amazon Bay to take care of the tank while I was out of town.  Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.   We can't help if you don't ask.

 Thanks so much, if I have any question I will be here asking. My husband and i have gotten our tank up and going it's been runing for a week with just the live sand, we went and bought 2 green chromise after the tank sat runing for the 7 days but the two lil guys did not make it they died the next day so I did a water change and have added lots of live rock to my sump and in the tank, i am just going to let it cycle for a few more weeks and let it do it's thing, but still monitor it,  I just got a new protien skimmer and that is now been running for 2 days. If you have any thing to add at what I need to be doing or not to be doing let me know thanks so much.... Paul at Amazone Bay has been a great help as well as the owner thanks guys for ur help.

I am glad you found us. May I ask how? We will be having another meeting the 2nd weekend in March- would be great to meet you. Your son's nano looks great. There are alot of different factors in what could have happened to your Chromis. Before you put them in the tank did you check your water parameters? When tanks are first up and running their ammonia, etc..."spike" and then tend to even out. You may hve been in the middle of your "spike." Just make sure everything is leveled out before you enter another fish into the system. Tell us about your system. Lights? protein skimmer? water movement? We might be able to help even more.
