January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

For a water change I am making new RO water and it tested Ph is 8.8 before it goes in the tank. My RO water is 8.7 up without salt. I tested the tap water for Ph and it is 8.8. How do I get the Ph down on my water?

that is rather interesting Zul, usually after RO the ph often drops i have had the opposite problem in the past with RO that comes out in the 6's. Do you have a TDS meter to test to see if the membrane on the RO is still working great?

How about adding a air stone to blow off the Co2 Zul ?
At the plant were We make Rodi it is pumped into 25' tower the water is is them suspened thru fill and we use air blowers to stip the Co2 out of it. The ph of the water at this point drops to 6

CO2 lowers the PH of water.  That is why we add CO2 to our Calcium reactors, to lower the PH so the media will dissolve.

Zul,  is the high PH of your water causing a problem in your tank?  Is you PH staying high?  What are the PH readings, at night after the lights have been on for many hours? and then in the morning before the lights come on.

You should expect the evening PH readings to be anywhere from 8.0 to 8.5, even 8.6 is not much to worry about.

The morning PH readings should be from 7.8 to 8.3.  As long as the PH stays either at the high or low end of the range, you should be ok.  It is when the PH has a drastic swing from evening to morning that you need to be concerned.   The corals and fish do much better when things are stable and they are not exposed to drastic variations.  That also goes for salinity, PH, temp, alk & CA.

Check your readings and let us know what is happening.
