January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

Hey Matt,
I remember you studying Penductors and Eductors at one time.   You even made some.   I just read a little about them myself.   I was thinking about buying a few until I saw the price  .   They are pretty darn expensive  $25 a pop.    I heard they were easier on pump and often produce 5  times water movement.    What are your thoughts of these?

I read about these too last summer but was not in the market for them since I was upgrading tanks.  Seems like a cost effective water movement upgrade.

One thing you guys need to be aware of when using any sort of eductor, they all require a pump with a high head rating. For instance, on my Dolphin 7500 it has a shut off head of 25 feet. What this means is that I could only use 2 eductors and should only have one for proper operation. (on this pump). Of all the eductors I have looked into most require at least 10 psi of water, though some will work at 5 or so psi. Lets us now put that into perspective; in order to arrive at the psi rating of a pump you need to multiply desired psi by 2.31. So 10 psi is 23.1 feet of head taken from your pump. Ok, now lets figure how much water will be pumped through that eductor at 10 psi. On my Dolphin 7500 at 23 TDH (total dynamic head), I have reduced the water flow from 122 GPM to 30 GPM. In most eductors there is about a 5:1 ratio of water flow. In other words 5 times the water is displaced than the water being pumped through it. So for my pump I have now gone from 122 GPM (before eductor) to 150 GPM of water moved through the tank. This gave me a net gain of about 23% and I didn't and still don't feel is worth the added expense. All of you who have seen my tank in "high flow mode" know that water flow is not a problem.
So there are the facts as I see them, and if anybody wants help with piping and pump sizing for adding eductors then feel free to ask, I will be more that glad to help.

Wow that was too high level for me but I think I get the picture.  Thanks Les very intersting information.  And using you set up as an example really helps.

Les,
What I was thinking is ...and I ran it through the guy that works for above company.    I want to run my pump as effieciently as possible.    I have a Dolphin 2100 return pump.    I will see if I can use a single pinductor or two pinductors with my return pump.    My hopes are to relief back pressure of my pump and extend life of pump.   I was told by one rep that penductors definitely create more flow.   I want to hear from factory rep that does testing.  Matt built a few penductors.    My hopes are moving more water with less energy.
