January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

You need to find out the head loss through the chiller, pass on the size of your pipes with number of ells, and then I can tell you. One thing you don't say is what is the pump pumping from? Does it pull from the sump and then return to the sump? Or is that 4.5' of vertical head the difference between two tanks? If it pulls from the sump/main tank and returns to the same vessel, then there is no vertical head loss. (unless its open at the top)
I would be glad to help you out with this but, I NEED MORE INFO.

Thanks for the fast reply Les First the mag drive will be in the sump it will then pump 12" of head to a chiller that is has a minimum flow of 240 gpm  the chiller is all 1 " pvc pipe I don't know what head loss thru the chiller is Les? Its Current Prime Modular chiller from the chiller we will travel back to the top of my 75 gallon tank and this is a additional 3 1/2 feet and this will be done in a 6 ' piece of 3/4" hose hooked to the 3/4" sea swirl..

More info on chiller 1" pipe with with a very big "S" pattern going in on one side a out on the other Les I hope this helps ...Jeff

Jeff, I'm sure that you mean 240 GPH not GPM. Based on that you should see somewhere around 6-800 GPH at the outlet. I would not use the 3/4 hose to connect the sea swirl, increase the pipe size to 1".
FYI: Using 3/4" pipe/tubing at 800 GPH there is .31195 foot of head loss per 1 foot of pipe. 1.403775 vertical head loss for your application.

Using 1" pipe/tubing at 800 GPH there is .09805 foot of head loss per 1 foot of piping. .441225 vertical head loss for your application.
As you can see using the larger pipe all but elimanates the head losses created through friction of the pipe.
The Danner Mag drive pumps are very good and reliable pumps but, loading the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) up is a good way to reach the Shut Off Head.
Hope this is helpfull.
