Mid-Columbia Saltwater Aquarium Club

April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

What Family of Coral contains only one genus and only one species!

First to get it right wins a 1/2 pound of Caulerpa serrata ( i think) Smiley

Did anyone get the answer yet? I hope not, because I spent some time looking for the answer.  I thought it would be fun since I'm an amateur at this and the fact that I can barely understand the salt water terminology.

My answer is the Atlantic Genus: Stephanocoenia (1 species) aka crown
or the Indo-Pacific Genus:  Palauastrea (1 species) aka star

I know you were looking for one answer, but here's two that I found.

Grade me!

My husband Nacho thought this would be good for me.......Carmen

You are correct that those genus only contain one species, however that family contains multiple genus and species
Family Astrocoeniidae
Madracis

Madracis asanoi
Madracis asperula
Madracis decatis (Ten-ray star c.)
Madracis formosa (Eight-ray finger c.)
Madracis kirbyi
Madracis luciphilia
Madracis mirabilis (Yellow pencil c.)
Madracis pharensis (Star c.)
Madracis senaria

Stylocoeniella (Thorn c.)

Stylocoeniella armata
Stylocoeniella cocosensis
Stylocoeniella guentheri

Stephanocoenia

Stephanocoenia michelinii (Blushing star c.)

Palauastrea

Palauastrea ramosa

I think Ed knows the answer, you really need to open up your brain for this one.Smiley

Leptoria (Brain or Maze c.)
Leptoria irregularis
Leptoria phrygia

Nope, Those are in the family Faviidae which has many many many species.Alright i went and did some further research and just like last month there is some mix up, the site i got my coral species list is missing one in the genus so apparently there are two species but only one genus in this family i am sorry im a loser    thought i had a good one
Think more open though to get the answer angel Wink

muhahaha i guess i am still right, the other species i was talking about is actually now just recently being considered a variation of this coral, so the final hint is its very similar to a Wellsophyllia which is a genus that was just recently eliminated, there now its easy money Smiley

I had to try one more time.

How about the Trachyphylliidae Family: Open Brain or Pacific Rose Coral

Fun while it lasted, but if this isn't right....how about another hint.

100% correct
the Trachyphylliidae Family only contained the Trachyphyllia geofroyi until recently when the Wellsophyllia radiata was changed to a Trachyphyllia radiata and is sometimes used interchangebly. you win Smiley
so you have your choice of some caulerpa, a six line wrasse, 3 green chromis, some pink pom pom xenia, or a fragment of green starburst polyps Smiley
And i am in spokane through saturday if anyone needs anything from kevin at aquatic dreams, i will start another thread
Congrats Carmen
Justin
PS i will post the link when i get home on sunday of the coral species list
thanks again for having fun with me
