April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

OK this is the third time I have redone the seal on this one leak and I am about to go nuts.  Anyone have a suggestion as to what to use to seal a leak?  I have tried more PVC cement on the outside, silicone over the cement, and even tried silicone tape and to no avail.  Any help would be appreciated?

It's a 1" T fitting The center hole connection.

I would take the fittings out, get new ones and use primer and glue on them. If you de-burr the ends of the pipe and use primer/glue then you shouldn't have any problems.

OK thanks, it looks like I may have to redo the "Y" I have on the closed loop because of this one little leak.  For now just the return pump is running and there are no leaks.  The durso is kind of noisy how do I quiet it down?  Thanks

Try this link for adjusting a durso stand pipe.

Angel,
What type of noise are you having?   Is it a flushing noise like the syphon is trying to catch up?   If I drain my tank below dursos, and then refill my tank.  My tank  will gurgle for a bit then regulate itself out or bleed the air bubbles out of lines and be quiet on its own.   My question is how long did you run your system with it flushing?   You can also check the heighth of the dursos to make sure they are same or equal.  If they are same heighth its probably air not bled out of system.
That is a pretty nice air valve addition on Durso site that Les gave you.   I hope your problem  goes away quick with no modification.   The air valves should be a easy find with a little air line.   You most likely do not need them though.
good luck,

I have a valve similar to what is shown on the link posted by Les but will try a different one that I have.

Yes Ed it is the gurgling sound that you mentioned.  Will try the different valve and see what happens.  Thanks guys

dont worry too much bout noise yet though angel, it often takes a while for our plumbing sytems to "slime" up inside the pipes. Once that happens the noise will drop considerably in overflows.

Angel,
Can you give a time frame that your Dursos have been cycling?

Angel, What size of PVC are you using on your durso? How much flow do you have from your return pump? I had to change from 1" to 1 1/2 " with 2400gph  on my pump.

I'm fighting with flow rates too.  Sounds like a common problem at the moment.  I've got my pump turned down pretty good to keep the overflows from overflowing (and thus the whole tank).  I may have to reconstruct the return line...and make it return lines instead.  I've got 1.5" returns, but they combine into a single 1.5" to go back into the sump.  I think I'm just beyond the capacity that that single 1.5" line can handle.  I'm only at about 1/2 way open on the supply lines and would like a little more flow, but I'm about 1/4" from the top of the tank, and changing the hole size on the durso's isn't affecting water level anymore at this flow rate.  If I cut back more, I can affect the leve with hole size though, so that's what makes me think I'm beyond the capacity of the return (well...that and talking with Rick last night).  I'd sure like to get more out of this Dolphin 3700 though.  May play with the dual returns this weekend.
