Mid-Columbia Saltwater Aquarium Club

April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

If no one has one you can probaly make one.  I think Lowes has some stuff that you can use.  I don't think bending it would be that hard.

Thats a good price.    But you get what you pay for at times.   That particular reflector loses alot of light on the ends.   With a fully enclosed reflector you would get a lot more light for your money.
my two cents..

Ed,
You are absolutely correct. You do in fact get what you pay for. Another option for Shane would be to purchase a $150 each reflector. I feel that starting out with an open ended reflector will be MUCH better for his corals than giving up on any metal halide due to the cost.
Another point I would like to make, Rick has used this same reflector for a number of years. I don’t think anyone that has seen his tank would accuse him of keeping his corals shaded. Just because a certain reflector is a few percent better than others or even many percents better is no reason to discard the lower cost unit.

I do hope in the future to purchase those premium reflectors for my tank, right now I need to start stocking it though.

thanks for the feedback and help everyone, i think i might try to build a custom reflector for now, i only have 1 400 watt ballast/socket/bulb
its going to have to be centered in a tall canopy, so i was thinking of
making a 24 " reflector and enclosing the ends

The reason PFO works a little better is because of the length of reflector.  If you remember the more reflector area the more reflection.  I spoke with Kevin at Aquatic Dreams today about reflectors.   He told me a friend of ours in Spokane had the Spider light reflector on his small tank.  He went to a PFO and noticed a big increase of light.   That persons name is Alittletank on Reef Frontiers.   He is a really nice guy I am sure would tell you the difference one on one.
I spoke with a PFO representative today about PFO reflectors.  I am hoping they will make a ends for their reflectors for those that want em.   I was told I would get a reply by tomarrow about if they could make the ends by them self or start building them.  I believe they were encouraged by SanJay Joshis reports.    I also asked if they would make it to The  Big Meeting in August.   Person told me if they could get it off, they would like to be here.   So cross your fingers and lets see what happens.   They will probably be visiting The Midcolumbia Saltwater Forum and Reef Frontiers.   So think positive and maybe better things will come.  I would love to have their support.

Les & Ed I just wanted to pass on that I have had very good luck with my PFO Light fixtures and I thinks they are doing a good job on the light dispersment.  Les mine have the built in Halide fixtures with 2 VHO lights for Artintic supplemation. My only Negative thing i can say bad about them was the initial cost ...Jeff
