Mid-Columbia Saltwater Aquarium Club

April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

I know that this will be one of the easiest project for me to build yet.

Kalkwasser Reactor. Based on this design. http://barraquatic.com/kalkreactors.htm
The one that I will build, (when I get the money) will be 36" tall.
5" wide.
Hanna Variable Speed Magnetic stirrer.
estimated size recomendage 150 - 500 gallons.
estimated material costs $130.
Esimated labor time 4.5 hours.

I have been looking around a bit and have found a couple other designs that use Acrylic and PVC and just have a plain ol pump plumbed into the middle of it.  I wonder if that would be cheaper and a little more reliable.  I havn't heard or read great things about those magnetic stir'rrrs.  Plus even if the Kalk destroys the mixing pump after a year or so you are only putting a cheapy $15 rio 50 on it or something like that..

Here is an example:

What bad things have you heard about magnetic stirrers? Do tell.

According to what I have read, they only come on 4-6 times a day for no more then 3 minutes each cycle.

Just seeing what the status of this was.  Have you started yours yet.  I was also wondering if you had ordered the acrylic that I needed??  Thanks

Not to mention all the homework that goes along with school
