January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

You would have to ask him about that!  I am sure he wouldn't mind getting some pointers from you as well!

We picked up our stand from Ron last evening and it looks great.  Thanks Ron for a beautiful job and also for helping transport it to our house - please thank Steve for us again too.   Smiley

Next step:  epoxy paint the inside for water protection - Darrel's chore.  He says light gray.

Angel, we saw your stand at Ron's - it is really coming along nicely.  I like your idea of the door on the end to get your sump into the stand.  You will really like it when Ron is done - I am sure it will be beautiful, just like ours.   Cheesy

Tank is also coming along - waiting for next update from IAP.  One of these days, we might actually have our reef tank set up - patience is the key!  (but the most difficult part for me - the wallet quickly emptying is the most difficult part for Darrel!)

Thanks for the update Vicki I am going to try and go by there today and check it out in person.  From the pics that stand looks great.

It looks like your tank is coming along nicely too.  I ordered all my lighting, pumps, and got soem rocks from AB.  I am working out the overflow and drilling phase next.

This really is a simple style of construction.  The doors are actually one of the more time consuming parts.  My biggest concern in building these is the weight they must hold up.  I felt a little better about it after looking at some they sell in pet stores.  I had never built anything that had to hold up 1000 to 2000 pounds before.  I have done everything I could think of to make them strong, but I will worry about it until the day they fill their tanks.

Vicki that stand looks great.  I like the stain too!

Check out the next phase.

Angel, Smiley

Do you have side doors in your cabinet? Are your front door big enough for your sump?

The front doors should be be big enough to shimmy the sump in but I wanted a side door to have better access and just make it easier to get the sump in and out of the stand.  The door will be on the left side of the stand where I will have access to it.

Angel, if you want to stop by and look at our cabinet, we just live a few miles up the road from Ron - off of Leslie.  628-2154 for directions. Will be home all day - the electrician is coming this afternoon to bring more power (insert Tim Allen Tool Time grunt-grunt here) to our tank location.  Let me know if you want to come look at our finished stand - Ron did an excellent job!  We're happy to show it off!   Cheesy

Ron - I think we could park a Hummer on that stand and it isn't going anywhere (and I mean the original ones, not one of those H2 lightweights!

Seriously, it is so nice and I think it will be perfect with out tank.  Can't wait to get the tank then we can talk to you about the canopy (boy, you'd better get that clock built - Jane will have my hide if I take you away from that project! )  Again, we just can't say enough about the great job you did on this - fantastic work Ron - thank you so much!!

I went by and looked at the stand and I am amazed at the quality workmanship that Ron has.  He is awesome.  My stand dhould be ready in a couple of weeks and from the looks of it it can hold two 150g tanks.  I am going to go with the same color stain Vicki got it just looks awesome.

Zul, the side door is to get the sump/refugium in and out of the stand if need be.  Not going through the front sorry, I don't know what I was thinking in my earlier post.

And finally the finished product.  I swapped the door handles around so I have one of each on each side, with the cone seashells to the outside and the flat shells to the inside.  I also used some weather proof paint on the inside (kettle black almost a blue black color) and sealed the cracks along the bottom with caulk before I painted.  I used Ed's idea and laid down some plastic runners under the tank for any oops that might happen.  So without any further blabs from me here is my new stand!!! Cheesy

The 55g sump slides in through the side door perfectly so I can take it out anytime I need to do something major.  I got some ideas from Rick on the Sump/fuge design and the plumbing so will work on that next weekend. I am so excited, I just can't wait!
