April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

Zul,
Those do look like media reactors.   I think you will need a smaller pump to circulate the water into a reactor that small.   I think 90 gallons per hour is what Premium aquatics recommends.   If you do decide to use Rowa PHos, please rinse it to wash out the slimies before you use it, other wise it could affect your Alkalinity and cloud your water.
I hope this helps

Zul,

They look almost identical to the Phosban reactor I have.  Just made in different colors.  Do you have all the parts? (long center tube, bottom diffuser plate & top diffuser plate)  If so, and they don't leak, you should be able to use them.

Like Ed stated, they could be used for carbon, phosban, rowaphos etc.

What kind of water should be used? RODI or salt? It dosen't say to do this on the Rowa PHos Container? What will it do to the Alkalinity Ed ? will it raise it? Cheesy

Jeff,

I just pulled out my instructions on this unit.  They do say to rinse the media IF you using it in a media bag.  However if you are usining it in a media reactor then you should flush 2 - 4 gallons of water through the unit into a bucket and dispose of the flush water.  This is to remove the fines that will cloud your water.  I circulate tank water through mine 24 hrs a day.  Use a gate valve to control the amount of flow.  Set it to just have the surface of the media boiling from the water flowing up from the bottom.

Jeff,

I can't tell you what the flow rate is because it is determined by the boiling action from the water flowing up from the bottom of the canister through the media.  When the surface of the media appears to be boiliing then it is sufficiently fluidized and the flow rate is correct.  I suppose you could start out with a 90 gph powerhead and start with the valve closed down and slowly open it to determine if you are able to get the proper flow.  If not then bump up to a larger powerhead.  In looking at the discharge from my unit, it does not flow a lot of water.

Les,
This media can be ordered from Custom Aquatics,  Its called Rowa Phos.     If you make a order can I get in on deal with you too..   I am in need of Rowa C.    I need 10 pounds so I figured I would order the package they had for 24 pounds.
