April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

What about 2 inch bulk heads for my 150g?  I saw Finn's tank from RF and with two of those drains he moved a lot of water.  He had two pumps attached to spray bars.  One bar across the top and one across the bottom.  I am not too crazy about just having spray bars but it is an option.

thanks for all the info and help guys, matt thats a great tip on koi joy, those guys are awesome, i went in there last year i think, owner was super cool, everyone very freindly, if they have the plumbing i'll definatly get it there, i would have went today , but they are closed, i guess i am going to start with one 1" bulkhead for drain, the question is who wants to drill it and when is a good time, tank in empty and clean and fits in my vehicle , i could bring it wherever, just let me know, thanks in advance guys Cheesy

i was in talking to mike at amazon bay, he brought up the possibility of no bulkhead but instead seal an acrylic box around the 1 3/4 hole to act as an overflow w/o dealing with siphons, his thought behind this was that by using a smaller sump as i am, that it could by pumped dry easily with a 1" drain, and by running w holes/ no bulkhead the weight of water in the arcylic box would create a much better gravity flow down to the sump, hopefully returning water to the sump as quickly as it is pumped to tank.
he showed me the 180 gal tank in his shop is set up this way, it does appear to move a lot of water with no siphon, what does everyone think
about doing it this way?? i think i could pick up a small peice of acrylic
just as cheap as bulkheads and would just drill a drain hole in bottom of box.

Shane,

The setup Mike has at the store works well for the environment it is in, i.e. not a living area where you have to listen to the noise generated.  I would recommend you use bulkheads (1.5" for drain & 1" for supply) buy some acrylic to make a surface skimmer so you can remove only the surface water (or I can show you how to do it with a large 90 ell pointing up with a grid cover to stop snails & fish).  If you build a skimmer box from acrylic you can install a Durso drain system that would be totaly quiet.  I also would only buy parts from Koi Joy in an emergency because they are much more expensive than Marine Depot  www.marinedepot.com.  Marine Depot is in CA and the stuff usually gets here in 3 days.  A 1" bulkhead is $7.50 & 1.5" is $8.50.

BTW, I can drill your tank next week.

that would be awesome rick, just let me know what day, ill bring the tank to ya, im looking forward to seeing your new baby in person, i did go into koi joy, they have 1" bulkhead for 6.00 or or one for 8.50 that has all the parts to quick connect to 1 in clear tubing, the only problem with that is the tubing 2$ a foot  plus no shipping

if the 6.00  threaded bulkhead will work let me know, the guy sd that this is the one people usually use for aquariums because its a little more trim than the bulkier models
i think its a
1 3/4 hole
