Mid-Columbia Saltwater Aquarium Club

April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

Depends on the size of the tank.

BTW I am a serious DIYer. I can give you a whole bunch of hints. I was able to set up a 180 gallon reef tank while working only 9 hours a week and going to school full time. Wife is a stay home mom. So it can be done but you have t be very- very smart about it. And of course it goes very slow with minimal amount of money. But if you want any ideas I can help.

this is to set up a 55 gal tank, im sure that i will take advantage of your tips, right now just trying to get some basic equipment for initial setup, i am definately planning on taking my time with this tank, so no worries there, thanks

if i do end up getting a pump, i definatley going to need some ideas for plumbing, i have never used a sump, dont know the first thing about the design, so far i know ya need a pump, overflow box (i dont want to drill tank), and pvc, thats about it

i am glad this club has some salt water veterams who are willing to share their experiences

Bshane if you ever want to come by my house and see a ghetto version of a sump/refugium you can.  It will atleast give you an idea of how to set it up.  It's not pretty but it works great.

And you will probable want to rethink the over flow box. I had one for 3 years before drilling my tank. Most of us have had overflow boxes before and hate them. They are the biggest pain in the butts when it comes to flooding.

Plus I drill a pretty nice hole in tanks. So does Rick Berg. It is so easy and actually it is easier then putting an overflow box on the tank.

We both have all the equipment to do it.

Bshane I am off for the next three days so you can come by anytime I will PM you with my number.  I am going to have my next tank drilled.  I have an overflow box and it SUCKS! Literally,   it sucks air in and loses syphon.

Hey Jeff,
Rod does not get on here very much.   But I think he would be interested in your Barr Aquatics skimmer.   That would be perfect for his 180 or possibly his 300.

Lessons learned The CPR work ok but requires a tall stand to do maintence on it. Thants why its up for sale I couldn't get it to fit under my 75. The Barr Preforms very well but it requires a Mag drive 1200 GPH pump to run it My sump is totally full so I am going to probably go back to the CPR just for the room savings. I had to go with a hang on AquaC Urchin on my 75 and it does a very good job on the smaller tank.
Ed If you talk to Rod or bump into him Let him know I will sell it for $175 and I will also sell the Mag Drive if he needs it for $100 Thanks Ed Take care all ...Jeff

here comes a dumb question.., what kind of parts do i need to get to make the bulkheads work??  i dont plan on using the water return for circulation for now, i have an old rio 1700 pump for the water return,  and until i buy a new one its gonna be powerheads for circulation

so the idea is to move water from a 20 gallon glass tank back up to the 55 until the water level reached the bulkheads, then back to the 20??
if anybody can help me out with a makeshift parts list and/or estimated cost for my sump project , that would be great Cheesy  Cheesy  Cheesy , thanks in advance for everyones help
