April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

Ok, Its a parrot fish.   It looks like a adult Bi-colored Parrot.   This fish eats coral and live rock and creates clouds of Sand by expelling it out their back side.    That is where most of the Sand on our beaches came from.

:?: .....ok.....whos else is going to try?

What I'm looking for is not the "scientific name" of the fish, but the common name.  More important though is figuring out the significance.  I'll give you a clue . . . if you figure out the common name of this fish, you are bound to know the significance.

Happy hunting!

This is a Thalassoma trilobatum,  aka Christmas Wrasse. They prey on crustaceans, bristle stars, mullascs, worms and urchins. As to eating coral and defecating sand, I just don't see it. Seems to me that if that happened then the erosion on the exit hole would wear it out and become much greater is size, similar to sand blasting, just at a lower velocity.

Oh, and by the way. That "clue" left me clueless. I must be blind, I can't see the significance of what this wrasse has on the reef.  :?
For those of you that don't have your own copy of Burgess Atlas of the fishes, then here is a link I found that was helpfull.

Les,

One question for you . . . did you look at the rest of the page where the fish picture was?  The significance has more to do with the topic than reefs.

Oh, and by the way, you are correct on the fish.

If you show up at the December meeting, you can collect your prize.  I plan to have a small prize for both you and Les, seeing as he identified the fish.  I should make you split a prize, but I'm feeling generous.  (Just ask Home Depot and Lowes.  They've seen my generosity a lot lately. LOL)
