Mid-Columbia Saltwater Aquarium Club

April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

Mary at Jason Lee Elementary has asked for help getting her tank back in tip top shape.  Mary maintains a saltwater aquarium for the school.   I visited Mary  at Jason Lee Elementary today.   Mary has put together a 100 gallon Acrylic Five foot tank.   She has 4 4ft VHOs for lighting.  I noticed she has 3 atinics and 1 50/50 bulb.   She is set up for Softies.   The only problem is..she is overrun by mushrooms and the coolest green Zoos I have ever seen.  She has two perculas and one damsel in the tank.    She could use a medium sized powerhead for flow.  She has a Prisim Protein Skimmer.   She has a built in Wet and Dry in the back of the tank.  This area contains Bio Bale.   I asked her to remove this slowly.  I told her this was a problem for phosphates.  She has minimal amount of Live Rock.   She does not have to pay dues because she represents a school.   Any help getting this tank on the right track would be appreciated.  So come on Guys and Gals welcome the new gal to the Club.

Welcome Mary!
Thanks for the tour today.

Sounds very. . .blue.  So besides the obvious need for various equipment and live rock, did she say where she wants to go with this tank, or make any requests?  I assume you pointed her here?

If so, welcome, Mary.  Let us know what we can do to help!  I have a soft spot for schools, having worked in a few, and having kids in elementary.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

Paul,
I mumbled about 3 atinic Bulbs.   I will have to follow up on that.   I know if you run VHO combo its preferred to blend the bulbs 2 50/50s and 2 atinics.    My thoughts are she needs more flow inside the tank,  She could use some more live Rock.    She could use a digital temperature monitor(Rainbow digitemp with alarms).   We could do a Reeftopia order together and she could order some snails.    She needs to remove Calerpa from middle of tank before it produces More Toxins in water.   She could use a Kole tang or a bristle toothed tang for algae control.
Just my thoughts.
