April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

Working as one to promote anyone willing to learn

« on: September 18, 2004, 03:06:15 pm »

I just spoke with Terry B.  http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=15

I asked him to make it if possible to PNWMAC in August 2005.    He asked for a date and what was offered to other people that gave lectures.   I told him a plane ticket and a place to stay and someone driving them around.   He said he would like to make it but would like more information on a date.

I know that Anthony Calfo said yes and he will be here on any day in August except the week end of the 26 or 28th (family engagement).

Thats the latest,

At this time we are trying to figure out how much ticket prices should be for PNWMAC.    The things to consider are ..cost of Guest speakers(travel, place to stay, cost if they take time off work).    Cost of catering if we hire catering,  Cost of Banquet room if we need one for vendors,
these are just a few of things to consider.  Motels usually have a bartender for people that want wine, beer, mixed drinks.    I recently contacted the old Tower Inn for rates on rooms, banquet room, catering.   I am hoping to get quotes from Red Lion or other places also.   The goal is for this to be organized, and not go through as much work as last year.   We all want to have fun, spend time talking to friends.

Another thing that would be cool if possible is to see if a winery would host such a event.

open for suggestions on how to make this the best meeting ever..fire away anytime please..

Last years tickets were $20. Everyone that I talked to said they would have easily paid double because of the foods and everything.

We got all the expenses paid for and that makes for a decent price comparison. If we want to do more this year, we have to take into concideration how many people will be attending. If we can say that at least 75% of those that attended last year will be attending this year and at least half again as much will be newly attending this year, then we could probable go for $30 tickets.

I paid $20 and only made it to half the meeting but it was still worth it.  If I had to pay $30 for this year's I wouldn't think twice.  I would say keep the auction and frag trade again.  Move the tank display towards the end where more people can enjoy them.  I missed that part amd judging from the discussion and the auction corals I bet there were some nice tanks.

I bet if we brought in more for the auction also, like more softies, like zoos, etc... (hint, hint) that we could sell them all. Last time we had three boxes. I bet we could easily have sold 6.

Matt I may be fragging a rock of yellow zoos if you are interested?  I have some blues zoos that I am waiting to spread to another rock too.  Let me know?

I was contacted last night from a person in Las Vegas that heard from another person on Reef Central about PNWMAC.   I like to hear people thinking of getting together.    The person said she was willing to do what she could to bring a larger meeting back in the West.   It sounded very positive.
I would like to have a meeting that centers around organizing this and helping out the newbies.  I am hoping in January.
I got a compliment from a person in Seattle.  It hit me really good.  We are pretty lucky to have people in our club that are willing to work together.   We are really a close knit of friends that enjoy sharing.   I thank you for being such warm hearted people.   Ok, I am putting on my fish hat again and doing the Funky Chicken strut..

Matt I seriously doubt with the amount of people we had last year that we could have sold 6 boxes..  We barely sold the 3 we had..  A couple people just picked up the last couple frags to help us out.  Plus that is an absolutly huge expense for the club to swallow.  I think we really need to know how big this thing is going to be before we start planning to purchase large quantities of  coral..

D,
This is a meeting where we try to get all the clubs together in the Northwest or where ever.   We try to get anyone that enjoys this hobby to come visit, its a chance to meet a friend you have talked to in person from internet(Reef Frontiers, Frags.org, Reef Forum, Reef Central, etc.)
For Example last year in Tri-cities there were over a hundred people that got together, hopefully learned a thing or two from Professional Guest Speakers.   We had a coral auction.  We fed people good, really good at the prefunction which was Friday.   Saturday we met at a Restuarant for Breakfast then did a tank tour, then listened to Steve Tyree and Ryan Gent in the Battelle Auditorum, We then went to a club house for a coral Auction, Raffle where over $750 worth of goodies were given away, People brought things to sell or trade, and then eats and drinks again.
thats the fifety cent tour..

You forgot to mention that everyone had a great time.  It was my first time really being around everyone but I had a great time just listening in on people talk about their tanks.
