January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

I stopped into Amazon Bay today on my lunch.    I can not remember a day that the stores Saltwater looked as good.   Mike Long has done some big improvements to the store.    He had some great looking animals in.

Amazon Bay was Stocked up pretty Good.   Mike Long has some experience in Saltwater.    I enjoyed talking to him.   I believe if we all support each other this place would be great.    We all can share from each others mistakes and support each other.   There is more out of Stores and customers getting along than not.  What I am trying to say is that It works good for both sides.    One hand supports the other.   I hope Mike and his crew join the Club and go to meetings.    We would learn from another perpective and he might possibly learn what people are looking for or which mistakes others in club have made, products we want to buy, fish experience, coral experience, frag trading, equipment sharing,  ..Win, Win situation..   I hope to see Mike at a Meeting.
I guess I want to say Thanks for everyone that has shared corals, equipment and time with me.    I look forward to next meeting

I went by Amazon Bay yesterday -   Wow what a difference!
Clean tanks, healthy stock, a plethora of frags (that blue-green sps sure looked familiar from someplace)...  And plans to greatly expand, he said, converting quite a number of current freshwater tanks to saltwater.  Exciting to think that we're going to have a vendor in the area to rival the places we currently have to go out of town to visit.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

Well amazon bay just took bad turn they hired someguy from aqua tropics who thinks he knows it all. He was telling some guy crazy stuff like would only cost the guy  200 bucks to get his tank setup and that he needed just a canister filter exc exc same bad advise you would get at aqua tropics. He was just trying to make a sale and not trying to set the customer up right tisc tisc. He was then going on and on how he is gonna take over all the east side blah blah . I think he needs to get his own tank and learn a thing abouty them first ......

most of the time when you think you know it all...you fail....I hope he learns first also and does not try to sell something that will  tarnish Mikes reputation.   I hope he learns there are people out there that want to learn about this hobby and can easily get discouraged.   A mistake like saying a canister filter will do it all could affect his choices of following this hobby more.   I hope he opens his eyes and learns that every tank is different.    I hope anyone that works at a Pet shop is there to teach the individual properly,  Anyone that has done this has learned it takes time for your tank to mature.   Its not a one day thing.  A canister filter can not hold a candle to  Biological fitration.   That biological filtration needs to mature with environment that is established slowly to become more effective means of filtration.   I hope we can work together with All Pet Shops and support each other.   Terry, I hope you heard that person wrong.   I would hate to see someone walk away from this fun hobby because of a mistake.    I hope that when someone hears of someone making a mistake that they invite them to a club meeting to talk about mistakes.     That would help us all or help them.     Its hard not to bad mouth someone like that in person.   Terry, you did good just holding your breath and walking away.   Maybe we all can work on a way to improve the environment by asking the Pet shops to see what we have accomplished.    We can grow SPS easily.   If you want to learn how come to a Meeting.   We can show you what we have learned together or such...Good Job Terry on keeping quiet and not causing a scene I am sure you could have made that guy look silly and it might have caused bad feelings among the store.    We want to be welcomed into a store and work together..
