April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

Wayne,

Aptasia woes?  If so, we were thinking of  buying some of the aptasia eating bergia nudis...you interested in ordering some too and trying to get a quantity discount?

I am interested in the bergia nudibranch as well.  I have a 90 gal. tank and am beginning to experience an outbreak of aptasia which the peppermint shrimp seem to ignore.  I am not sure how many would be appropriate for my tank size.
Let me know what you find out about the costs.
Thanks!

I believe Floyd is doing the filefish method.    Maybe ask him how that is going?

Will be a couple weeks before we are ready to put in the order, but have found some places to get them, if we get to $300 for the total order, we get free shipping (and discounted price for nudi cost too due to bulk order).

Will keep you posted on what the going price will be.

Nate,
I might have a connection in Wa state.   Paul was wanting me to buy some a week ago from someone breeding them.   I will bump Paul.   Paul Hamby is a member.   Not sure why he is not chatting on here.

I am using a file fish for some aptasia I have.  He has been in there two weeks.  He has started eating the aptasia.  I had to move a duncan into the other tank because he was closed up and I suspected nipping.  I do not have softies in the main tank and I think a file fish would eat them.  I will let you know how it goes with more time.  It would be very easy to catch him to remove him if needed as he sleeps out in the open in a corner.

Yikes.  Guess I won't think too hard about going that route.  Good to know.

i tired the File fish rout as well and didnt have good results.

The main reason is the file fish is really shy. To be honest the shyest fish i have ever kept. I have alot of fish (4 tangs, 2 rabbits, 2 wrasse, 1 hog, 1 clown) The file fish wouldn't just go about his business he would advance on something and quickly retreat to the corner of the tank as soon as another fish would come close/ swim by and gather his confidence again and try again after 2 weeks of that he was starving and weak.

I think the combo of high water movement and lots of tank mates isnt a file fish best chance of getting good results

Hi Nate,

Did you find anyone interested in completing the berghia nudibranch order or did everyone lose interest? I am still interested in purchasing some and look forward to hearing about anything you have found out in regards to completing the order. Give me a call or send a PM/post.

Thanks!

Hi:

I tried the bergie's without success.  Still going to pursue copperband or pepermint shrimp.  Currently trying the Klein butterfly approach.  If you do bergie, let me know since I might try again.  Number of private parties were selling them in the Seattle area.

I want to do peppermint shrimp.   I am still having problems catching a flame hawk fish.   Hawk Fish eat snails, shrimp, anything live they can get their mouth around.   Who would have thought such a perky little fish could be such a pest?  Scott Micheals presentation years ago showed me a Flame Hawk eating a adult mandarin goby.

I purchased 3 peppermint shrimp for my aptasia issue a couple of weeks ago from Petco and have had pretty good success. I went from several dozen aptasia to no more than a handful.
