April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

Hey, what are you putting in it? And what light are you going to use, the 150watt mh? Set it up as simply as mine is... Just a small filter/skimmer, and liverock/water movement! Simple, easy, and almost maintenance free.

I'm glad you like the stand, it was fun to build for you! And it turned out great with the stain on it!

I def think that 150 is WAY too much light for this. You're going to cook everything in it! LOL! Looks great, Chance... Stand look a bit familiar. Smiley

So what are you planning on stocking it with?

how about some T5s over it?   Maybe 4 24 watt t5s?  With a fan.   A little water movement from side to side maybe a couple maxi jets with mod kits with Chauvet 4005 light timer.
Ok, sorry...I was getting carried away. Very clean looking tank.

Depending on your DIY skills could use some leds shouldn't need a whole lot to run a nano like that.

Chance,

I have been reading about some LED kits... easy, but still a little more costly. Also, I think I found the sweet spot on the 4x24 t5ho kit I have on my 10. The kit is on ebay for $75, then you need to buy a couple extra bulbs, which brings you to about $110 total. Perfect color, ample light. Makes the colors pop!!!

2 true actinic 460nm
1 purple ati bulb
1 10000k bulb

No disappointment there.

LED kit for that size and it would be overkill is $579.  But two things that you could consider.  No heat issue and long bulb life.

That's a little out of my price range ed  Cheesy haha but thanks for all your input, I would go leds cause I've done alot of research on them but hes set on metal halide. So I found him a 70w kit from hellolights for pretty cheap. With a 14k bulb I think it will do just fine. I will have to fit a couple small fans in the canopy just in case it gets too hot. And eric I'm not sure what he wants to do livestock wise. But I will keep you posted. I've been doing led research for a new project I'm working on. A 14 gallon led biocube. And I might be startin a big system in my living room. Maybe a 90. Haven't decided which one I want to do

You can do a DIY kit for a 10 gallon for maybe a hungred bucks these days. It's a different story over the 90, hahaha! That 70watt MH will be perfect for that tank.

I'm still deciding on a tank. Leaning towards a cube, but still not totally sold.

I have not seen a decent reflector for 70 watt metal halide as of yet.

that is why I am more comfortable with a 150 HQI  with small lumenbright refector.

What size is the tank going to be, i figured it up for my 55g to be about 300 bucks for the leds lights.

LEDs will become better and better as time goes by just like computers.   I am not too sure I would buy too many LEDs without researching them.   The unit I am pursuing is about $579.  Its a Maxspec.   Ross has another Unit that is pretty expensive and very nice.  He can tell you about.   You really need to research before buying.

If you do a DIY thing, stick with CREE bulbs. Smiley
