65g Tank project

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.
 
Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)
 
You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hey folks..

I'm back with a new tank to play with..
It's a 65g I got from a friend on the motorcycle forums.

He was nice enough to throw in a 5 stage RO/DI system too..


I need to get lights, pumps, powerheads, heaters, well everything

The plan so far..

Find a sump I can build a refuge into.
Quiet One 3000 return pump.. (say 450-500 gph @ 5')
A pair of Hydor Koralia Evolution 750's for flow
DIY recirc skimmer

I'm still debating between T-5 or 2 x 175 Halide lights
Halides are great but I don't think I can afford a chiller to fight the heat.

That is it for new.. back to hunting equipment..

So far it's looking like it will be FOWLR..
My wife Niki has wanted a trigger since we started but we never had an aggressive tank..

I ordered a Marineland Double Bright 36" LED light.. Amazon had them on sale with free shipping..
Should be good for a FOWLR tank..


Just for fun we set it up over the weekend as a freshwater tank with a few goldfish for my son..
He loves it.. Better than an empty tank sitting there while I wait to buy equipment.

When I get all the salt gear together the goldfish will move into a 30G tank I've had stashed out in the shed..
That will be set up in my son's room.

The light came in today..

This is the Marine Land Double Bright 36"-48" light..

It's 16 1w daylight (guessing 6.7k) LEDS and 8 lunar LEDs (no spec given)

The fixture with the legs stuffed all the way in is 36.5" wide.
Just  enough to fit inside my 65's hood.
Price was $140 shipped from Petco.. They had a good end of year sale going.

It's not the brightest thing in the world but should work well for a FOWLR tank..
They claim it's equal to a 2x40 T12 NO lights..
I'd agree it's about like that type of output.

Marineland has a "reef" model of this light coming out soon..
the 46-48" will have 36 10k 1w LED's and 6 460nm blues.

i have a sump and skimmer if you want to check it out. I posted it in the b/s section but it measures 15"deep 24"wide 15" tall. It is all acrylic so you could add a chamber for a fuge if you wanted but the way it sits there isnt alot of room in it for much more than the skimmer heaters and pumps for reactors and what not.

It won't fit in my stand.. The door is only 12x21" and the interior is 26" tall..

Getting anything bigger than a 10G in there will be a trick..
