LED lighting compared to Metal Halides...

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.
 
Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

While most of us are still using Metal Halides.   There are a few friends of mine that jumped on the LED band wagon.    Paul Hamby was one.  Another is a transport from Texas to Tri-cities.    I am seeing pictures and being sent pictures.   I am excited to see the results.   The LEDs are more reliable as far as bulb life, you would not have to worry about spectrum change like mh,VHO, T5s, t8s, compacts, other flouresant bulbs burning from one spectrum to the other.   LEDs produce hardly any heat so no need for chiller.    I am hearing people  with LEDs say that they need a heater right now though.

In a article that Sanjay wrote- his con was that they were spotty compared to Metal Halides.  LEDs keep improving.   I am hoping in time the  price will come down even more.   Please post your thoughts.

I really would prefer LEDs in my tank they give the best color in the world  . i tought about making my own kit. LEDs for me

That Friend has a video of same tank with all corals and fish in it....Its awesome.   He sells  the above shown his set ups which is two wires for plug and play operation for $579 plus tax.

We have one person local that has a nice LED system.   Now we are going to have two.   Another person is buying two LED units in January.   I hope to learn from both.

    I have pictures and a  Movie.   I can email them to you if you like.   It shows progress of a empty 200 gallon tank and then within a weeks time a fully loaded reef tank with clams, corals, fish.    Paul Hamby has done this several times.   He is a good mentor, friend, hobbyist, businessman,etc.   I am thankful he is around.

There is no ratio there are a wide variety of LED systems out there with lots of diff wattages. It all depends on the LED itself.
