January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

Hi everyone my name is Rene' and I think it is about time I introduced myself, been lurking around for awhile Wink.  I am new to saltwater and I am in the process of doing a rebuild on a used 75g system that I bought.   I am hoping to get to know our local reefers, I belong to another great SW forum, but I would also like to become a part of a group closer to home.  When I know for sure that my tank build will show a lot of progress (it has been a very busy year), I will start a build thread with a lot of questions I'm sure Smiley.  Anyway hello and I am looking forward to meeting some new people.

Ed, I would like to come to a meeting sometime, but I will not be able to do so this weekend.  I live in Mattawa and it is hard for me to get into town on the weekends, especially this time of year.  My husband and I are working on some home improvement projects right now, as well as trying to find time to work on the tank and get it set up, and the weekends are the best time for us to work on them.  Normally I come into town on Tuesdays, by the time this week is over I will have been in town on 3 different days, a 4th trip is not in the budget Smiley.  Hopefully, when things slow down I will be able to start coming to meetings to meet you and the other members.  I am also looking forward to seeing peoples tanks and setups, pictures are great, but seeing them in person and meeting the people who have them is so much better.  Thanks!!!  Smiley

Hi Jerry,

I'm sorry, I thought you were not able to get the snails I asked for I thought you were only able to get the others.  I truly apologize, I will be glad to take them off your hands, had I not misunderstood they would not be in your tank now.  Let me know how we can hook up.   Thanks!!! Smiley

No worries and it really is no trouble at all.. what we ended up with were the nasarrius snails. They are the ones that like to stir the sand and seem to do a good job controlling red slime algae. My tank can handle the guys until it is convenient for you to pick them up.

I don't have any sand in my 29g tank, but I will be putting sand into my 75g tank.  Do you think they will do okay without sand?  If so I will get them from you as soon as I can, if not can you keep them until I have my 75g set up?

I've got them in the 29G. QT tank.  They are breeding apparently, as we have a ton of tiny ones now, so they seem to be doing just fine.  Been 8 months or better they have been in there.

That is really cool that they are reproducing in your tank, I just read that it is hard to get them to breed in captivity, you must be doing something right. Smiley  By the way I looked at the pictures of your tank build earlier today, it is totally awesome.  I wish I had been into reefkeeping when we built our house, but that was over 15 years ago.  Now I am trying to figure out how to turn the area in our basement that was supposed to be a bathroom and is now storage, you get the idea Wink into at least a partial fish room.  It will not be to hard to pull everything out, but it will be hard to find a place to put it all.  Anyway, nice job on your tank and thanks again!!! My Son is staying with some friends in Richland, while he is job searching, if it works out I could have him get the snails from you Monday evening after you get home from work.  Then I could get them from him on Tuesday, I will talk with him to see if he can do that for me, let me know if this works for you.  Thanks!!! That would work fine. I meet and get dropped off from my vanpool at the Walmart at Queensgate in Richland. I am always there by 5:50. I could have them with me then, and he can meet me and pick them up.

Jerry, I wasn't thinking I will be in town tomorrow evening for a bridal shower (one of my 3 days in town Smiley), if it works for you I could meet you myself and take the snails off of your hands.  Let me know.  Thanks!!!
