January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

Well we might be doing the same when we decide what we are going to do with our tank because we just went thru the traumatic experience no one ever wants to go thru and that is moving your tank and losing 99 percent of everything.

Nacho moved it last Friday to the shop and the odds were against him because he worked late trying to get things going but when he went in on Saturday all of his fish were dead Cry lack of oxygen, maybe or too cold or just stressed from the move.  He continued to work on it and attempted to keep his coral and clams alive but by Sunday his coral had bleached out and he lost his clams except his big one.

At this point, we are sick and devastated as we both worked all weekend on the tank to end up with these results.  He's got his big clam that may survive and I actually sorted through everything yesterday and kept anything that still had color but they didn't look good so now time will tell.

Thank you Jimbo for coming out and helping us move the tank on such short notice.  We feel bad about the whole deal but this is the time to make some decision on whether we will continue or downsize for the new home.  Most likely we will continue because we've been at this hobby too long that we feel it's something we need to balance our life, if that makes any sense.

We are crossing our fingers that we will be moving this weekend so we may not be making the meeting.

Sorry to hear that you guys.   Sad  All I can tell you is, you can and will recover from this if you decide you want to.  Colleen and I had a complete loss back in 2002 or 2003 when we went camping for a 3-day weekend and came home to find the GFCI had been tripped by the painters power-washing the house we were renting at the time...and of course that had to have happened on the Friday we left...and we didn't come home until late Monday.  By then everything in the tank was dead, fish floating, corals all dead.  We didn't have the club then (hadn't found out about it until 2004 or 2005), and didn't know we could still re-use the rock and sand.  So, we started over completely from scratch.

Enter the club and we've started over a couple more times as we have gone bigger and bigger (although not completely from scratch).  Our bout with AEFW nearly wiped us out of coarls again in 2008, and we are now - knock on wood - just finally getting back to where we feel like we have everything under control again.

If you decide to continue on, stick with what you have.  You know it works, and it grows things really well.  You guys had a beautiful tank, and I know you can recreate that in the new home.  We have frags for you of things we've gotten from you, as well as frags of things we have that you may not have had.  All you have to do is let us know when you are ready.   Wink  That's the real joy of this club...a support system for when the chips are down.  I wish Nacho had called me, we were home Friday and I could have easily run down the hill to give him a hand.  In the future, please PLEASE don't hesitate to yell if you need a hand.  You guys have helped us out, as have many of the other club members.  We are always willing to return the favor if we are able.

Good luck with the decision making process.  And, remember the hurt of the loss will fade with time.  Don't make a decision too quickly - you will have to live with it for a long time to come.  If things didn't make it, you have as much time as you want/need to decide if you want to take on getting things up and going again or not.

Let us know if there's anything else you need help with.

That's terrible news. We're all sorry to hear it. I'm sure people will be willing to help out with frags. I've still got hair algae galore, so probably nothing from me...

WOW, we are sorry to hear about your tank, Carmen/Nacho!  We will share whatever we can to help; we will share any frags you want. Your tank was one of the prettiest in town!

Hope to see you Sat.  Our club wouldn't be the same without you.  -Greg & Sandi
