January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

I have been researching MH Ballast.   Here is one I am hearing a lot of rant and rave about.   Its a digital ballast.   It works like a HQI ballast overdriving bulb.   But starts easier than HQI ballast.   The big plus is the price.    I had a friend that bought a 250 watt Lumatek  and played around firing up a 400 watt bulb.   This thing is nuts!!!

PCs are getting faster and more efficient.  So why not our Reef Tanks?

Marine Depot has these for $129.

Oh yeah, Lumatek carries a 5 year warrantee on their ballast.

I have heard a lot about them also.  Just ordered 2 400w ones so will get to try them out before long.

Hi Ed,
Haven't been on this forum for awhile so didn't see your post until today.  Guess I'm going to have to remember to get on more. Smiley  Yes, I bought two of them but one went dead after only a weeks use.  I called Marine Depot who is real good about getting out replacements but they are out of stock and don't expect to get more in for 2 weeks.  Kinda leaves me hanging.  I asked if they had many returns on these and the guy told me he did not so I hope I'm getting the up and up on it.  As far a performance, I really can't tell if they are any better.  I bought 400W and am running 400W bulbs so not trying to over push anything.  Guess I know more as time goes by.

If I buy another ballast it will most likely be a lumatek.   They have a protection on them if bulb or wiring has a issue.   I love the idea of no heat, instant on, they overdrive bulbs but smoother than magnetic ballast.   They are easier on bulb from what I heard.   They fire any bulb.  Those are some of the talk I have heard.

I just got a heads up that the New Lumatek Digital ballast coming out the end of this month will be able to switch from 250 watt - 400 watt according to Robert Farnsworth of Marine Depot.
