January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

I am trying to build a hood for my first set of metal halides, and I was wondering if anyone knew where to buy, best brands, or if they have any lying around they want to get rid of. Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Icecap fans are the only way to go.  You can get them at lots of online suppliers, http://www.marinedepot.com/ is one example.   These fans are the best because the run at different speeds depending on the heat in the canopy, they have a thermocouple and a 3-speed motor.  The other good thing with IceCap is, if the fans ever go bad, you can send them in to be reconditioned for less than buying new ones.

Buy 2 - one to push air in and one to pull air out of the canopy.

Just an update, talked to IceCap today, they do not refurbish the fans. Cry Thought it was a little strange, but I trusted the source that told me they did.

The radio shack fans are cheaper by far, but don't have the multi-speed capability.  They are always running full speed, even at night when the heat in the canopy isn't very high.  It'll work your heater harder in the cool months of the year...but if you have a good heater, shouldn't be an issue.

I was planning on putting mine on a timer with the lights. They only need to be on when my lights are correct?

I actually use computer case fans, but they also have thermostats on them that speed them up and slow them down with temperature.  I tend to run them all of the time in the hood, since they slow down a lot without the halides on and they're built to run for years on a computer system.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.
