January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

Hello!  My name is Christy.  My family and I are from Central Oregon and due to the loss of income down here we are planning to move to the Tri-Cities!  My husbands family lives there and he was born and raised!  Seems like everytime I talk to someone from there they seem to know my husbands family!  I hve a 120 gal SW reef tank, a 90 gal FW tank and a 10 gal FW tank.  I plan to move them all up there slowly but surely.  We are short selling our house here so we could be in this house for a bit as we look for places to live up there.  As we find something I will start with the FW tanks as those will be much easier to move.  I am nervous to move my SW but at least it is only 4 hours from here.  My LFS here has offered to help bag and oxyginate for the move.  I plan to move my RO/DI unit and start filling my 50 gal drum  first so I can at least start getting salt mixed!  Does anyone know of a good LFS store up there that will have SW to buy?  50 gals will get me started but I will have to fill the tank as soon as I can so I can move everyone in!  I am also on another forum that has had many good suggestions for the move but does anyone here have any good ideas to make the move easy?  Thanks and hope to meet some of you soon.  I think we will be up there in about 1-2 months.

Christy,
Again,  I have a 450 gallon tub you are welcome to borrow and put in your garage, etc to help your move.   I live in Kennewick.   I can also make make up water here for you.    I have a RO.   I loaned out my RO/DI.   But TDS is still in good readings.   Just let me know what I can do to make your trip easy.  Smiley

My wife and I have moved big tanks several times.  Granted, ususally just across town, but the ideas are the same.  Bagging things with oxygen is a great idea...styrofoam coolers with heat packs as needed also a good idea.  Fish that will get along we put into 5 gallon buckets (old salt buckets work great).  Rock and such we used the 18 gallon tote containers with lids - not waterproof, but work good for base rock and some small amount of water to keep things moist.

We've got a coulpe garbage cans (30 gal I think) you could borrow to make salt water in, but Ed's tub would be nearly ideal if you have room for it.  As for salt, petland has IO and Ocean Pure for about as reasonable as you will get locally.  We've also got a 29 gallon tank with a 175w MH that could be borrowed if needed short term to house fish and/or coral while you get your system back up and going.  If you are intersted, PM me and I will give you contact info for Colleen and I.

Thanks ED!  When we start looking at moving the tank I will get a hold of you!  My husbands family is all in Kenniwick!  How long would you be willing to let me borrow your tub? I think if i can get all my stock up there first then take my time with the tank and get it set up that will be ideal!

Christy,
The tub is empty right now and has been for a long time.    I got it for tearing down my tank.    As long as I do not have to tear down my tank I will not need it.      I also have a extra large pump setting around unless I have a emergency.   Its a Reeflo Snapper.      So you would need flow for oxygenation, I also have a few heaters,   Two trash cans on wheels, etc.    Again, lots of good people around ya.    If you are concerned with corals.    I have room  on the sand of my tank if they are compatible with my system.    That being SPS, and LPS.     I am slowing weaning my self off of Zoos.     I am trying to remove palytoas.     I recommend visiting and seeing what I have for you to borrow.    The club here is not as big as Portlands.     But I do not think you will be dissapointed with the way each member takes care of each other when there is emergency.   There is a lot of heart down here.    I look forward to meeting you and seeing what I have you can borrow.

How big of a tank do you have to have to have a 450 gal tub?  That has to be a huge tub!  Depending on the sturdiness of it I think I could get all my stuff in that tub and put my canopy over the top to keep light over it!  My tank wont need light until it is set up.  I am worried about keeping light on my sps and lps.  Zoas can handle no light for a while as can my other softies.  I sure everything could as long as it isn't long term!  I am afriad to put my fish in there as I don't want them getting used to that much room!  Plus I don't think I would ever find my pistol shrimp again in there!!  Smiley  It is looking like end of September begining of October that we will move the tank.  I think we will start moving the rest of the house before that though!  I think we will just take our time and get it all done properly!  Why rush when you are only 4 hours away!

Your fish and pistol shrimp would be a issue for me.   I would have to tear my tank down to get them.   I have a 300 gallon cube (4ft by 4ft with overflow in center).   I should be able to house your corals or clams at the bottom of my tank.    I am storing a clam right now for Paul, that has been growing pretty good.   I have 6 clams inside the tank now that is including Pauls.    I still have plenty of room along the outter edge of tank.

The 450 gallon tub would host your fish if needed.   If I make a trip to Seattle I have a extra 155 gallon tub up there that freinds have stored fish and live rock for months at a time with.

OH sorry I was talking about putting them in the 450 gal tub!  I don't want them getting used to that room to then go back to a 120gal tank!  I will ask you to house my clam just because I  love him so!  I don't want anything happening to him!  You can see him in my avatar!  I think everything should be fine in the 450 tub.  That is if we have room in whatever house we find to rent/buy.

My husband had his 3rd interview today and from this interview got a job!  He will be working as an electrican at Lamb Weston in Richland!  He starts work in 2 weeks and depending on when and where we can find housing we may be moving sooner than we thought!  See you all soon!!

Thank you for the offer!  IT is great to have some many willing to help out!  I think it will all depend on the house we get.  Not many rentals up there and the ones you can find wont except pets! Looking into buying too but many of the houses in our price range have been TRASHED!!!!  But still looking and I will come to a meeting the next time I can!!

Well we have an update!!  My husband found a rental to possible rent for our family!  So my daughter and I went up this weekend to look at it and it is very cute!  We are going to rent it and we can start moving in Sept 1st.  My husband starts his job Sept 1st.  He is going to live in a pretty empty house until we get many things up there.  The house is in Pasco so far enough away from the in-laws that they just wont want to stop by! As I was about to leave and come home I got a call from Animal Hospital of Pasco saying they heard I was in town and wanted to interview me!  I had called them Friday to say I was coming but I never heard back from them!  Hospital was closed so I couldn't see them in action but had the interview and they offered me a job right then and there!!  So my last day at my job here is Sept 18 and we will take a week to move!  Here we come!!!
