I have had this pest in my tank for close to two years now. It is about 2 1/2 inches long and hails from the Gulf of Mexico, off of the coast of Florida. This villainous predator is responsible for eating numerous sails, crabs, abalone, fish and more in my tank. I am ecstatic that I finally caught the bugger. If anyone is interested, it is yours for the taking.

Many congradulations on your capture. I don't want it though. I finally managed to kill what I think was one, Grin, came in on some pacific live rock, made a clicking noise from time to time. and alot of invertebrates died, or turned up missing  Cry.

I don’t have a good picture of the mantis. It is loose in my sump right now so I cannot take a photo. I have a picture of another mantis that I caught when I received my rock. It looks similar.

This guy went to someone at the LFS.

Here is a link to the trap I made to catch my mantis. I first tried the trap over a year ago, but the mantis did not seem to be interested. I then tried a commercial trap that had the same success and was actually difficult to use and set. I gave up for a while but I finally decided to go back to the bottle trap once more and found that persistence paid off. After several nights with fresh bait he finally made it into the trap; I just used some raw shrimp after the lights went out. I put the bottle next to his favorite hole and left it there for a couple of hours each night and then voila.

I cut a slit in the end of the bottle to let the air out and I just used scotch tape to hold it together. Happy hunting.

I am going to try this. But, seeing the picture of the Mantis, I'm not so sure anymore if that is what it is. I don't see the super long tenticles in the picture, and my creature has long white tenticles.....
