January Meeting 1/14/12 @ 6PM! - OFFICER ELECTIONS!

Beau is hosting the January Meeting this coming Saturday the 14th at 6PM.  It will be BYOB as well as a snack to share and raffle items are always welcome.  It has been requested that there be “NO SHOES” on the carpet due to it being a whitish color.

He doesn’t have a tank to view but we will have plenty to discuss in hopes that it will get the NEW YEAR off to a good start.  The annual membership fees are due, so now would be a good time to get them in to our Treasurer Stacey Hahn.   Fees are $20 per individual or $25 per family

Attendance was low at the election meeting in November and no votes were taken at December’s meeting so we have decided to take votes for anyone that didn’t get the opportunity in November and will be attending this meeting.
We will add the votes to November’s ballots and the announcement will be made during the meeting so we can go forward.
NOMINATIONS:
President:  Jim & Nacho
V. President: Ed, Bo & Daniel Leigey
Treasurer: Stacey
Secretary: Carmen & Angie

Let’s hope the New Year brings new members, returning members and new ideas.  The club is always willing to take suggestions to get the most out of the hobby we all enjoy.

Please PM Nate C. by clicking here for directions if you are not a club member.

Club members can click here to go to the club member only forum to get directions.

Hope to see you all there!

Ed,

Yes, that is probably correct. It is good or bad to have?

Good read Ed thanks.  Most brittle stars are reef safe except for the Green one.

Yes, thanks Angel Cheesy. I found a new sea urchin at Dec. 2004. It is green and about 1/4". Now the sea urchin has grown about 1" long. He is changing colors from green to light purple.  Cool  Cool

I have three of thoser in my tank and all were hitchhikers.  They are algae eaters from what I have seen.  Hope you have lots of coralline?

Would a brittle sea star be a good choice for my 29 gallon aquarium? I plan to have some soft corals in it. (Xenia, Zoanthids, clavularia, mushrooms)

My 29 gallon is 12" across and about 30" long. I think that Brittle Starfish are 10" from the tip of one arm to the tip of the arm on the other side, so it should work. There won't be very many places to hide for it, if there is any. I only plan to have 5 green chromis, 1 clownfish(probally ocellaris), and 1 firefish. Maybe even a cleaner shrimp. The only problem would be the brittle starfish eating the other fish and shrimp.

Another good choice for you if you want something that isn't quite as big, and is good at getting into rock to hide would be a serpent star.  They are also good detritivores.  We have 6 in our tank, one of them lives with our Yellow watchman and his pistol shirmp.  Another lives with the purple fire fish and his pistol.  pretty cool.
