April meeting 4/14 @ 7PM - Grant's house

Laura and Jim will be hosting the May meeting this Saturday the 12th and it will be the usual of food, drinks, raffle and fun.

Doors will be open at 6:00 pm for social talk and the meeting will start at 7:00.  Parking gets a little tight and the city says you can't park on 4th but there is a parking lot a block away.   Meeting is usually held in the backyard so feel free to bring your favorite lawn chair, weather permitting of course.

If you need address/directions, contact a club member.

Best if you park at Mini Mall (where the spaghetti establishment use to be)

You will get to see his new frag tank set up in the making.

Hope to see you there!

Should I buy a AquaC Remora Protein Skimmer or Red Sea Prizm protein skimmer? My aquarium is 29 gallons.  Undecided  I am thinking of getting the Remora.

I have a Remora on my 29G and have been very happy with it.  The tank is heavily stocked with SPS, some small LPS, an RBTA, and a couple clams, but only has a few fish.  The Remora has consistently churned out the nasty goo, but I would recommend the overflow box/bubble filter return option.  When the tank was new, it was hard to keep up with all of the thick nasty stuff it pulled out, but now I empty it once or twice a week.

They can be pretty expensive; look around for a used model.  The upgraded pump on mine was an improvement as well.

I'm not a real fan of the Red Sea skimmers.

I used a Remora Pro for years on our 75 gallon, it did the job quite well.  In fact, I need to get it back from Rico this weekend so I can set the 75 up again during the move of the 155 next weekend (I'm really not looking forward to this....)

I would go with Remora if it were me.   The Remora pro is a little bigger but worth the money if you want to upgrade later.  Wink

I got my protien skimmer today! I went with the Remora. Installation took about 45 seconds and it seems to work, but I'll give it a week or two for the break in period.

I found with mine that if you use the brush that comes with it to clean the nozzle every time you empty the cup it works much better than if you just ignore the nozzle.  I also ran the cup as low as possible to get as much skimmate as possible.
